Children will not know how adorable a dog is and how much happiness they can have if they do not have a dog at home or if they have not come across a dog at all.

Experience is the best teacher. You can tell a child millions of truths, facts and many many more advice. Not many children will listen to what you say; in other words, many children do not heed your advice nor believe what you say. This is from my own experience, as a tuition teacher, as a school teacher, and as a student before and as a parent of two children now.

I started giving full-time tuition as soon as my GCE 'O' Level examination ends. While waiting for the results to be out in three months time, I had sourced for students myself. I gave relief-teaching and home tuition to individuals and to groups of students. From that time onwards, I had been giving tuition even after I was an undergraduate. But a child who witness fire burning a house, a child who was burnt at her finger while playing with fire, will know what is pain and what is fire and how fire can injure his finger and damage her surrounding. This is called learning from experience. It is far better than you tell the child so many things. When the child learn from experience, they can write better in their essays, term papers or in their composition.
