World of Imagination

Children live in their world of imagination. A creative child is a child who is able to imagine. Imagination is the gateway to learning, discoveries and even various inventions in the world. Without imagination, nothing much would have been accomplished.

Bringing up children is a challenging voyage. Every parents are trying hard to provide responsible and balanced care for their children. However, there are times where spouses differ in their parenting style and their opinions differ when it comes to raising their children. This is definitely so, for my own family. My parents hardly buy toys for me. They believe that toys are a waste of money. My husband also shares the same kind of 'old-thinking' as the old-generation thinking. His mother, which is my mother-in-law, did not buy any toys for her children at all. I think this is a very big mistake for any parents to be made.

Though my parents were reluctant to buy toys, I still had my way and I managed to have most of my favourite toys and games. I believe that toys and plays can really do wonders for children. To the children, the toys allow them to imitate their favourite cartoon characters and even their soccer idols or any other TV stars. Through their own imagination and own play, they learn how to co-ordinate their body movements, they learn speech and interactions with their playmates. Toys are even more important when there are no playmates. To a lonely child who plays on their own, they use their own 'self-language' -- talking to themselves, reply, asking, etc impersonating different roles for their own plays. This is so for my son when my daughter goes to school and he is left alone.

I would not want to save money on toys. Anything which can help to nurture the mind of the children and bring them more self-confidence and self-esteem, I will not try to save. By observing your child and interacting with your children, you will know what your children like and dislike. Build a close relationship with your children. Show them your love through hugs and kisses and also through playing together.

Acting out a role is a powerful way of instilling values to your children. Taking up a role helps the child to experience the feelings and thoughts of the character. This helps to develop understanding on the part of the child. Before playing or after play, we can also talk to our children about certain movie shows or television shows. Topics which can be discussed includes things like what they like and dislike about the characters in the show. The children can get to choose which character they would like to act upon.




Children loves to wear costumes and fanciful clothes when playing. They love to imitate their favourite idols or they just want to be something great. I'd bought the set of costumes some years back. Until now, these costumes have been the children's favourite 'toys'. One night, I caught my daughter and my son putting on the costumes again, playing in their room, having so much fun. That was their imagination at play. The costumes become their pajamas for that night. After they were tired, they went to bed.
